Senior AWS Application Developer – Network Automation & AI Tooling:
On behalf of our oil & gas client, Vaquarii is seeking a Senior AWS Application Developer with a focus on Network Automation & AI Tooling for a 12-Month Contract. Services would be carried out though a Hybrid Work Schedule from their downtown Calgary headquarters.
Responsibilities:
- The hiring manager oversees Network Operations & Automation which is a team responsible for a fleet of~20,000 network devices.
- Compliance with patching timelines is a current business driver, and the team has spent the last 6 months building AI-assisted prototypes of the tooling they need. The prototypes work.
- They need a professional developer to take them to production.
- This role splits roughly between two tracks running simultaneously:
- Independent builds: Owning development of specific tools from scratch or from prototype, under the hiring manager’s direction
- Coaching: Sitting alongside Senior Network Analysts and walking them through what it takes to move from a local prototype to a hosted, production-grade AWS application
- The hiring manager has a strong development background and will actively collaborate with this contractor.
- This is not a solo execution role. It is an embedded, high-collaboration position on a technically engaged team.
Must Have Skills:
- Strong hands-on AWS experience in complex, cloud-native environments with the ability to clearly articulate services used, deployment patterns, and personal ownership of solutions.
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Kiro, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar.
- Proven ownership of CI/CD pipelines, including building, maintaining, and supporting automated deployment processes.
- Experience deploying infrastructure into AWS using CloudFormation.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with demonstrated experience coaching or working alongside non-developer technical teams.
- Strong backend development experience with Python.
- Frontend development experience with JavaScript / TypeScript frameworks such as React, Angular, or Next.js.
- Strong version control experience (Git or equivalent).
Nice to Have Skills:
- Exposure to network operations, infrastructure, or OT (Operational Technology) environments is considered a strong asset.
- Oil & gas or energy sector background
Job Location:
- Downtown Calgary, Alberta
- Hybrid Work Schedule (Mon/Tue/Thu in office)
