IS Resiliency & Governance Analyst

IS Resiliency & Governance Analyst:

On behalf of our oil & gas client, Vaquarii is seeking a IS Resiliency & Governance Analyst for a 6-Month Contract with a high possibility of extension or conversion to full-time employment.

The perfect candidate will build the governance layer using disaster recovery testing coordination, exercise planning and design, BIA facilitation, and reporting cadence.

Services would be carried out though a Hybrid Work Schedule from their downtown Calgary headquarters.

Responsibilities:

  • This candidate reports directly to the hiring manager, who is currently a team of one.
  • There is no existing team, culture, or established governance framework to step into; this hire helps build it.
  • The Client has already invested heavily in resilience systems and technology; this role exists to build the governance layer on top of that investment – DR testing coordination, exercise planning and design, BIA facilitation, and reporting cadence.
  • This is a doer role, not an advisory one.
  • Hands-on documentation and governance-building is the core expectation, not oversight or delegation.
  • Reporting is a current top priority for visibility and transparency, but the actual requirement is the ability to identify the right metrics and locate the underlying data – not proven Power BI build skill.
The Client has in-house Power BI capacity to lean on if the candidate can define what to measure but hasn’t personally built dashboards.
  • There are four core workstreams  – DR governance, recovery planning, Power BI/reporting, vulnerability/risk coordination)

TECHNICAL ENVIRONMENT

  • Power BI – ability to define reporting metrics and identify data sources is required; hands-on dashboard-building is not a gate (in-house Power BI capacity exists as backup).
  • Microsoft 365 Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint) at an advanced level.
  • ServiceNow or similar ITSM platform – usage not confirmed by the hiring manager; treat as unconfirmed, not gating.

Must Have Skills:

  1. 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, Program Analyst, Governance Analyst, or equivalent.
  2. Demonstrated ability to build governance documentation, playbooks, or process artifacts from scratch in an ambiguous, greenfield environment.
  3. Ability to identify relevant reporting metrics and locate underlying data sources for resiliency performance reporting.
  4. Strong stakeholder facilitation and communication skills.
  5. Accountability: owns work through to completion and is transparent about challenges and blockers.
  6. Comfortable working independently for extended stretches (roughly a week at a time) against a clearly defined deliverable, then collaborating to refine.
  7. Comfortable self-directing priority across multiple concurrent workstreams without a fixed ranking from leadership.

Nice to Have Skills:

  • Direct experience with a real cybersecurity or DR incident (‘battle scars’) and lessons learned that can be applied to a new environment.
  • Prior leadership experience or demonstrated experience having difficult conversations.
  • Energy or oil & gas industry experience.
  • Large enterprise, complex-organization background.
  • ServiceNow or similar ITSM platform experience.
  • CBAP, CBCP, ITIL Foundation, PMP/CAPM, or risk/cyber security certifications.

Job Location:

  • Downtown Calgary, Alberta
  • Hybrid Work Schedule (Mon/Tue/Thu in office)

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • Success in this role means bringing a builder’s mindset to a newly developing resiliency function.
  • The right candidate may come from a Business Analyst, Program Analyst, Governance Analyst, or Business Continuity/Resiliency background – the specific title matters less than demonstrated experience building governance, processes, and structure within a large, complex organization.

The successful candidate will be able to:

  • Take a clearly defined deliverable, work independently and autonomously, and return with a strong first version that can then be collaboratively reviewed and refined.
  • Build practical governance frameworks, processes, documentation, and reporting rather than simply provide recommendations.
  • Comfortably self-prioritize across multiple competing workstreams without relying on leadership to rank every task.
  • Define meaningful metrics and reporting requirements, identify where the underlying data resides, and work with reporting specialists to turn that information into effective dashboards. Hands-on Power BI development is not required.
  • Navigate a large, complex enterprise environment, working effectively across multiple technical and business stakeholder groups.
  • Bring relevant tools, certifications, or industry experience where applicable, while recognizing that demonstrated governance-building and execution capability are the most important measures of success.
