Intermediate PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA):

On behalf of our Oil & Gas client, Vaquarii is seeking a Intermediate PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) for a full-time position. Services would be carried out onsite from downtown Calgary headquarters.

Responsibilities:

• Administer and support PostgreSQL database environments across development, testing, and production systems
• Monitor database health, performance, availability, and capacity
• Perform database tuning and query optimization to improve system performance
• Implement and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies
• Support database migrations, upgrades, patching, and replication configurations
• Troubleshoot production issues and participate in incident response activities
• Collaborate with developers and the Data & Analytics team to optimize schemas, indexes, SQL queries, reporting workloads, and PostgreSQL FDW integrations
• Develop and maintain automation scripts and operational procedures
• Ensure database security, access controls, and compliance with company standards
• Maintain accurate technical documentation and operational runbooks
• Participate in on-call support rotations as required

Must Have Skills:

1. Strong experience administering PostgreSQL databases in production environments
2. Strong understanding of PostgreSQL architecture, replication, backup/recovery, performance tuning, and PostgreSQL Foreign Data Wrapper (FDW) capabilities
3. Experience with Linux-based environments
4. Proficiency with SQL and query optimization techniques
5. Experience monitoring and troubleshooting database performance issues
6. Familiarity with high availability and disaster recovery concepts

• You will work closely with application developers, infrastructure teams, the Data & Analytics team, and business stakeholders to ensure database reliability, performance, scalability, and operational excellence.
• A key focus of this role will be supporting the daily operational and analytical needs of the Data & Analytics team.
