Senior Full Stack Developer:
On behalf of our oil & gas client, Vaquarii is seeking a Senior Full Stack Developer for a 12-Month Contract with a high possibility of extension or conversion to full-time employment.
The perfect candidate will own full-stack development end-to-end (front-end dashboards and back-end services, roughly split evenly) for automation tooling supporting network infrastructure lifecycle management.
Services would be carried out though a Hybrid Work Schedule from their downtown Calgary headquarters.
Responsibilities:
- Own full-stack development end-to-end (front-end dashboards and back-end services, roughly split evenly) for automation tooling supporting network infrastructure lifecycle management.
- Tasks are owned by one developer from design through production, not divided across a front-end/back-end pairing.
- Build automation for firmware upgrade workflows across a large fleet of network devices, including pre-upgrade validation, execution, verification, and rollback mechanisms, plus audit and logging for operational transparency.
- Pick up and productionize automation prototypes already built by the network engineering team, using a structured AI-assisted development framework that carries requirements and architecture context forward from the existing work.
- Coach and enable network engineers on production software practices as part of the working relationship — this is an ongoing part of the role, not a one-time handoff.
- Operate independently day to day, with limited direct oversight, translating ambiguous operational processes described by network subject matter experts into reliable, repeatable automation.
TECHNICAL ENVIRONMENT
- AWS Cloud Native. No Terraform, no Ansible, no CloudFormation-based infrastructure-as-code layer — automation runs as cloud-native applications making direct calls to network devices.
- Backend: Python. Frontend: TypeScript, React or equivalent UI framework. Full-stack range across both is expected of one developer, not distributed across a team.
- AI-assisted development is a core, required part of the daily workflow — the team’s current tools are Kiro and Amazon’s AI DLC; comfort with Claude or an equivalent AI-assisted workflow is acceptable.
- CI/CD pipeline ownership required — building and maintaining automated deployment pipelines, not only using pipelines someone else built.
- Existing work in progress: a working prototype plus initial build effort already underway in a sandbox environment, pending infrastructure completion from other teams before full deployment. This is an IT/OT environment with defined deployment boundaries.
Must Have Skills:
- Full-stack ownership demonstrated end-to-end – front-end (React/TypeScript or equivalent) and back-end (Python).
- AWS hands-on experience with real deployment ownership
- CI/CD pipeline ownership.
- AI-assisted development workflow comfort.
- Ability to operate independently with minimal day-to-day direction.
Nice to Have Skills:
- Experience productionizing a prototype or proof-of-concept into a hardened, deployed application.
- Experience in network, infrastructure, or industrial/OT-adjacent environments.
- Coaching or mentoring experience with non-developer or less-technical collaborators.
- Familiarity with device lifecycle management, firmware, or hardware-adjacent software (IoT, embedded systems, network devices).
- Energy or utilities industry background.
Job Location:
- Downtown Calgary, Alberta
- Hybrid Work Schedule (Mon/Tue/Thu in office)
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
- Success in this role means bringing a true end-to-end ownership mindset to the development lifecycle—from solution design and hands-on full-stack development through testing, AWS deployment, production support, and continuous improvement.
- The ideal candidate is a Senior Full-Stack Developer with 5+ years of proven experience who can step into an existing or prototype environment, quickly understand what has already been built, and confidently stabilize, harden, enhance, and take it into production.
- They will be comfortable working independently with limited day-to-day direction and ideally bring experience in infrastructure, networking, IoT/device management, or other hardware-adjacent software environments, although strong enterprise SaaS experience will be considered where full-stack ownership and AWS deployment are clearly demonstrated.
- Practical job-history evidence matters far more than certifications or credentials – we are looking for someone who has actually built, deployed, and owned solutions in the real world.
- Most importantly, the successful candidate will see this as a focused, high-ownership engagement they genuinely want to take on, not simply a temporary landing spot while waiting for their next opportunity.
