Senior Enterprise Architect – M&A Integration:
On behalf of our oil & gas client, Vaquarii is seeking a Senior Enterprise Architect (Merger & Acquisition Integration) for a 12-Month Contract. There is a high chance of extension.
The perfect candidate will serve as the technical authority for an integration program, responsible for baselining the current-state enterprise architectures, designing the future-state integrated architecture, network and infrastructure and ensuring that all integration decisions are coherent, technically sound, and aligned to the client’s evolving business model as a combined E&P organization operating across Canada and Colombia.
*Ability to speak Spanish is a strong asset
Services would be carried out through a Hybrid Schedule from downtown Calgary headquarters.
Responsibilities:
- This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role – not a governance-only position.
- The Enterprise Architect will work directly with stream leads, IT Leadership, the SAP System Integrator, Microsoft, and third-party vendors to ensure design decisions are grounded in the realities of the program.
Current-State Architecture Baseline
- Document the end-to-end enterprise, network and infrastructure architecture – applications, data, integration, infrastructure, and OT layers – producing an authoritative current-state architecture baseline that the program can plan against to consolidate the client’ environments both on premise, cloud and hybrid.
- Identify architectural conflicts, duplication, and technical debt across both environments, with particular attention to: infrastructure configuration differences, Active Directory forest structures (2 forests, ~1,399 users, 2,883 PRE groups), Microsoft 365 tenant configuration and licensing position, GG&E petro-technical platform duplication (Petrel, Kingdom, Spotfire, ARIES, WellView), OT environment (client operates OT as an autonomous business sub-unit with its own vendor contracts and infrastructure), and cloud platforms (Azure, GCP, AWS).
- Confirm the application estate and produce architecture-level disposition recommendations (retire, consolidate, migrate, retain) for each significant platform.
- Document all integration touchpoints – SAP PO, ETL pipelines, APIs, RPA bots, Power Platform connections – and produce an integration architecture inventory.
Future-State Architecture Design
- Design the target-state architecture for the combined organization, covering: identity and access (AD as target forest, Microsoft Entra ID, PAM), ERP and finance (SAP S/4HANA RISE – target CoA, controlling area, company code structure, AFE framework), GG&E platforms (unified Petrel environment, seismic data repository, well data model), OT architecture (IT/OT boundary, DMZ design, SCADA historian consolidation), cloud architecture (Azure as primary cloud, GCP rationalization, data lake, integration platform), and data architecture (data governance, data lake, Power Platform, BI/analytics).
- Define the target operating model for IT in the combined organization – governance, ownership, support model, and sourcing strategy – aligned to client’s business model as an independent E&P operator in Canada and Colombia
- Produce and maintain Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) for all significant design decisions, capturing the options considered, rationale, and implications.
- Ensure the target architecture accounts for Colombian regulatory requirements (DIAN, ANH, PPDP Law 1581 data residency) and Canadian regulatory requirements (AER, CER).
Program Architecture Governance
- Act as the architecture gate for all workstream designs – review and approve technical designs from stream leads (IT Infra & AD, Corporate/SAP, GG&E, OT, Data Repositories) before implementation.
- Identify and manage cross-stream architectural dependencies – particularly the dependency chain between identity migration, SAP cutover, and OT historian consolidation.
- Work with the SAP System Integrator to validate that the SAP data conversion approach (ECC → S/4HANA) is architecturally coherent with the client’s target environment.
- Participate in vendor selection and SOW review – ensure that SI, Microsoft, and other vendor proposals are architecturally aligned.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Present architecture views to the Integration Steering Committee – translating technical complexity into business-relevant terms for executive audiences.
- Work with the Integration Management Office (IMO) to ensure architecture decisions are tracked in the program’s decisions log and communicated to all stream leads.
- Engage with client’s technical leads to validate the current-state baseline and build alignment on the target architecture.
- Liaise with Colombian operations teams (Bogotá) on OT architecture, ANH regulatory constraints, and data residency requirements (some travel to Colombia will be required).
Must Have Skills:
- 10+ years of experience in enterprise architecture, with at least 5 years in a senior EA role on large-scale IT transformation or M&A integration programs.
- Demonstrable experience baselining and designing enterprise architectures across ERP, infrastructure, cloud, OT and data domains – not a specialist in one domain.
- SAP S/4HANA (preferably RISE) architecture experience – understanding of the data model, integration patterns, and migration approach from ECC.
- Microsoft 365 and Azure architecture experience – tenant design, identity (Entra ID / Active Directory), security (Defender, Sentinel), and cloud landing zones.
- Experience with OT / ICS environments in an oil and gas or industrial context – understanding of the IT/OT boundary, SCADA systems, historian platforms, and IEC 62443 principles.
Nice to Have Skills:
- Oil and gas industry experience strongly preferred – familiarity with E&P business processes (AFEs, DOIs, JVA, production accounting, land systems, reserves reporting) and the petro-technical application landscape (Petrel, Kingdom, ARIES, WellView, Spotfire).
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) an asset given Colombia operation.
- TOGAF or equivalent enterprise architecture certification preferred.
- Experience working with Colombian or Latin American regulatory environments (ANH, DIAN, PPDP) an advantage.
