Intermediate Infrastructure Analyst

On behalf of our Oil & Gas client, Vaquarii is seeking an Intermediate Infrastructure Analyst a full-time position. Services would be carried out onsite from downtown Calgary headquarters.

The chosen candidate will support the administration, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the client’s enterprise server, virtualization, storage, backup, and endpoint infrastructure across a hybrid on-premises and cloud environment.

Responsibilities:

Infrastructure Operations & Administration

• Administer and support Nutanix AHV virtualization, including provisioning virtual machines, monitoring cluster health through Prism, and assisting with host maintenance and patching.
• Assist with the management of enterprise storage platforms (e.g., NetApp ONTAP), including provisioning, snapshot policies, and routine performance monitoring.
• Support the Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops environment, helping to maintain stability, performance, and a good end-user experience.
• Administer Windows Server infrastructure, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP, under the direction of senior analysts.

Backup, Recovery & Business Continuity

• Support Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365, monitoring jobs and helping ensure backup SLAs are met.
• Perform routine backup and restore operations for files, mailboxes, and VM snapshots as required.
• Assist with disaster recovery testing and documentation.

Automation & Continuous Improvement

• Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate routine operational tasks such as patching, provisioning, and reporting.
• Help identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce cost across infrastructure platforms.
• Monitor infrastructure health and capacity using tools such as Nutanix Prism, NetApp ActiveIQ, and other NMS tooling.

Security & Compliance

• Support endpoint security tooling in collaboration with the Cybersecurity team (e.g., CrowdStrike Falcon, Microsoft Intune).
• Help maintain secure configurations and timely patching of server and virtualization infrastructure.
• Assist with decommissioning legacy platforms and reducing the attack surface (e.g., phasing out end-of-life OS versions).

Collaboration & Documentation

• Provide escalation support to the Help Desk on infrastructure-related issues.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams (Cybersecurity, Application Support) to deliver integrated solutions.
• Document procedures, runbooks, and architecture diagrams in the IT knowledge base (e.g., Hudu).

Cloud & Hybrid Infrastructure

• Support Entra ID (Azure AD) integrations and hybrid identity configurations.
• Participate in cloud readiness and migration activities for workloads transitioning to Azure or AWS.

Must Have Skills:

1. 2 to 5 years of experience in IT infrastructure or IT operations roles, including hands-on administration of server and virtualization platforms.
2. Working knowledge of virtualization (Nutanix AHV an asset) and Windows Server administration.
3. Exposure to enterprise storage (NetApp ONTAP an asset) and backup platforms (Veeam an asset).
4. Familiarity with Active Directory, Group Policy, and Windows patching.
5. Some scripting ability with PowerShell, or a strong willingness to develop it.
6. Solid troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
7. Good communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to Have Skills:

• Experience in the oil and gas industry or other critical infrastructure environments.
• Experience with Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops.
• Familiarity with identity and access management tools (e.g., ManageEngine ADManager, ADAudit).
• Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and hybrid cloud architectures.
• Microsoft Certified: Windows Server or Azure fundamentals certifications
• Nutanix Certified Associate (NCA) or Nutanix Certified Professional (NCP)
• Citrix Certified Associate (CCA)
• NetApp ONTAP certifications (e.g., Cluster Fundamentals)
• CompTIA Server+ or equivalent
• AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or Azure equivalent

What Success Looks Like

• A hands-on infrastructure professional with 2–5 years of experience who is comfortable supporting a production enterprise environment across servers, virtualization, storage, backups, and core Microsoft infrastructure.
• Strong Windows Server fundamentals are essential, including practical experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, patching, and day-to-day troubleshooting.
• Virtualization experience is important; Nutanix AHV is highly preferred.
• The successful candidate doesn’t need to be a Nutanix expert on day one, but should understand virtualization concepts and be capable of quickly becoming productive with Prism and the broader Nutanix environment.
• Exposure to enterprise storage and backup technologies is expected, with NetApp ONTAP and Veeam being particularly valuable.
• We’re looking for someone who understands the fundamentals of protecting, restoring, and maintaining business-critical infrastructure.
• A problem solver who is willing to get into the details.
• This person should be comfortable taking ownership of infrastructure tickets, troubleshooting issues independently, knowing when to escalate, and working collaboratively with senior infrastructure, Cybersecurity, Application Support, and Help Desk teams.
• Someone who looks for ways to make the environment better, not just keep it running.
• PowerShell experience is an asset, but curiosity and a willingness to automate repetitive tasks, improve processes, strengthen documentation, and reduce manual effort are equally important.
• Comfortable working in a modern hybrid environment. Exposure to Entra ID, Azure, AWS, Citrix, Intune, CrowdStrike, or similar technologies will help, but candidates are not expected to be experts across every platform.
• The right mindset matters as much as the technology.
